Holiday Gift Ideas for Bros

Happy Black Friday everybody!

And Small Business Saturday.

And Cyber Monday.

And whatever they’re calling Sunday in this mega weekend of shopping.

With the start of the holiday shopping season officially underway, I thought I’d share a 3 part blog series on shopping ideas for the bros, ladies and kiddos in your lives.

Today let’s cover my top gifts for men. Whether you’re shopping for your husband, dad, brother or son, here are 5 “Ben Bacon” approved gifts that are sure to get him excited on Christmas Day.

Kiehl’s Ultimate Man Full Body Refueling Set ($62)

Kiehl's is, for lack of a better word, the shit. Living in Colorado’s dry climate, you gotta lotion up everyday and I’ve been using this brand exclusively for well over a decade. Their Facial Fuel moisturizer actually has caffeine (!) in it to wake you up each morning plus all their stuff smells amazing. Great gift for any guy who needs to up their grooming game.

Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers by Tim Ferriss ($16)

Tim Ferriss is the author of 3 of my favorite books: The 4 Hour Workweek, The 4 Hour Body and The 4 Hour Chef and partial inspiration for the name of my dog Ferris and this is his latest book which comes out on December 3rd.

This one is a 700 page collection of the best productivity tools, tactics and life lessons from his podcast conversations with athletes, celebrities and world-class performers over the past two years. As a loyal listener to his podcasts, I can guarantee this will be worth the 16 bucks. Great gift for any guy who loves business books, "lifehacking" and self-improvement.

The Roost Laptop Stand ($75)

Up to 80% of Americans will experience back pain at some point in their lives. And the culprit? Slouching (or bad posture). The problem is especially common for those who sit at a desk for hours and hours each day.

If this sounds like the bro in your life then check out the Roost, an adjustable and portable laptop stand that raises your computer up to eye level, eliminating the need to hunch over to type and read. Simple and brilliant.

Even better, the Roost stands are hand-built in Denver’s uber-hip RiNo neighborhood. Great gift for guys with lower back pain, bad posture or sit at a desk for most of the work week.

W.L. Weller Bourbon ($30ish)

For the past three years, before I started working at FlapJacked, I had this job where I traveled to Houston a lot. Which is not the best place. But in the middle of downtown stood this tiny oasis of a dive bar called The Reserve where they have an unbelievable lineup of bourbons including Weller 12 Year, the best bourbon I’ve ever had, for just $9 a pour.

How good is this bourbon? Even the makers of Pappy Van Winkle, the unattainable holy grail of bourbon, say Weller’s the closest thing to Pappy. Plus it’s relatively cheap and not entirely hard to find. Great gift for guys who like to drink alcohol (which is like 90% of guys). Look for it at your best local liquor store or check their site to see where to find it.

A CrossFit “Foundations" or “Get Started" Program

A lot of you know that I’ve been doing CrossFit for awhile now. I try not to talk about it or post about it too much because I don’t want to be one of "those guys” but it has had a tremendous impact on my life and I can’t recommend it highly enough for others.

Who is it right for? Literally anyone.

I started when I was 150 lbs and hadn’t touched a barbell in a decade or two. In the past two years I’ve gained almost 40 pounds while only going up one jean size (that's mostly for ass purposes, not waist fyi). And apparently there are these things called delts and lats and traps and glutes that grow when you lift weights. Who knew?!

It goes the other way too. I saw a guy at our gym this week who was almost unrecognizable to me because the last time I saw him a year ago he was obese and out of shape and probably 75 lbs heavier. And now he looks pretty damn good!

CrossFit works and it works fast.

The best way to jump in is to find a gym close by (link to map above) and sign up for one of their 2 week Foundations or Basecamp programs for beginners (usually found under their “Get Started” section of the website). There you'll learn the basics of squatting and kettlebell swings and Olympic weightlifting and more. You’ll also likely get hooked and continue on in the regular classes after the two weeks are over.

Great gift for guys who need to get in shape, get stronger, lose weight or all of the above. Also ladies, if you sign him up, he HAS to go 😃

That’s it for today. If you have questions about any of these gifts for the bro in your life, feel free to reach out to me. Back tomorrow with my top holiday gift ideas for the ladies…
