Well…some of you have noticed that I’ve been slacking on the blog front lately with just one measly post since August. And it's almost November. As with most things in life these days, I blame it all on having a newborn baby. He’s literally the worst.
Unfortunately, the clock keeps ticking on my $500 bet to write 25 blog posts in 2016. And with only 16 posts so far and less than 10 weeks left in the year, that means I’ve got to crank out a blog post every week now to achieve my goal.
So, I’d like to announce a new format to my posts for the rest of the year.
Instead of going 2,000+ words deeeeeeep on a topic like happiness or parenting or management, etc. I’m going to make them shorter. Lighter. Breezier. And maybe even my wife will read them now.
Basically, each week until the end of the year, I’m going to share a few bite-sized recommendations, thoughts, ideas and who knows what else around a given topic for that week.
This week’s topic: Family. So here goes...
Family App of the Week: Cozi
As our kids get older and involved with more activities and as Brooke starts diving back into work full-time with 4 kiddos at home, logistics at the Bacon house has become a lot harder.
Enter Cozi. A family organizer app that lets you, your spouse and anyone else (think grandparents, caregivers, etc.) have access to an online, real-time calendar that breaks down each day and color-codes out who’s responsible for what.
This literally might save the Bacon marriage, because each morning I (in my woefully ignorant bliss) would wake up and ask Brooke (keeper of the master Bacon calendar) “So what's going on today?” to the point where she was about to stab me with her toothbrush.
Now, each morning Cozi sends me an email of what’s going on so I never forget picking up Sloane from dance or taking Owen to soccer or “Sexy time with Brooke” each Thursday night from 8:15pm to 8:20pm (kidding!).
There’s also to-do lists, grocery lists, birthday reminders and lots of other bells and whistles to help keep your family unit intact.
Family Activity of the Week: The Fitness Marshall
The Fitness Marshall is a hip-hop dance instructor who has one of the hottest YouTube channels right now (100 million plus views!) where he posts instructional dance videos set to popular songs. They’re pretty easy to follow along to and you kinda feel like a badass when you do it.
The kids? They LOVE them. So we throw them on after dinner, burn some calories and belly laugh from watching everyone else hip hop dance. A+ family activity that everyone should try this week.

Family Meal of the Week: Banza Mac and Cheese
Another thing our kids love? Mac and cheese. With the heat of a thousand suns. They ask for it all the effing time for dinner.
It’s not something Brooke and I are overly proud of since there’s generally 0.0 nutritional value in your standard Kraft mac and cheese and the Annie’s Organic is only slightly more redeemable.
But Banza makes their mac and cheese out of chickpeas. Which gives them 18g of protein per serving along with 8g of fiber. It DESTROYS regular mac and cheese from a macronutrient perspective.
So we tried it this week. And all of our kids loved it. Between FlapJacked Mighty Muffins for breakfast and Banza Mac and Cheese for dinner, our kids are going to be bench pressing their bodyweight in no time.

Family Website/Podcast of the Week: Cool Mom Picks
This is one that Brooke turned me on to recently, and as the name suggests, it’s def more for the moms out there. She’s been following this website since our oldest son Owen was born and little did I know just how many of their product recommendations have made their way into our home over the years.
As I checked out the site and their weekly podcast Spawned, I was hooked. The moms, Kristen and Liz, are super funny, they cover very relevant family topics and have a great eye for up and coming brands.
